AllMusic Review by

Mega Funk is a frankly bizarre, often intriguing collection spanning funk, Philly soul, jazz-funk, and disco. It includes only a few obvious selections -- "One Nation Under a Groove" by Funkadelic, "Superfly" by Curtis Mayfield -- and concentrates instead on seminal disco classics ("Nice'n'Nasty" by the Salsoul Orchestra, "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" by Indeep, "Let No Man Put Asunder" by First Choice), funky workouts by jazz leaders ("Afro Boogaloo Twist" by Ramsey Lewis, "Black Is" by Jack McDuff, "Tight Money" by Reuben Wilson) and an assortment of groove-oriented tracks by R&B singers as varying as Minnie Riperton, Luther Ingram, Etta James, Teddy Pendergrass, Shannon, and Bo Diddley. The result is a four-disc box set with at least a dozen pleasant surprises for fans of groove music.
