This late-period Marvin Gaye live date may lack a tiny bit in terms of sound presentation, but the performance is scorching, funky, upbeat and sultry. Gaye was riding the chart success of "Sexual Healing," and playing all over Europe and the United States. This show features a smoking band, great backing vocals, and tight dramatic arrangements of hits like "What's Going On," "Let's Get It On," and "Inner City Blues" with killer funk breakdowns on "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Rockin' After Midnight." There are excellent performances of "Distant Lover" and the Motown hits medley in the center of the entire show. There are some quality issues, but for the money, this is a pirate import that cannot be beat.
