AllMusic Review by

Those looking for a straight-up career retrospective may be disappointed by Legendary Pink Box, which consists solely of unavailable material, alternate takes, and some new re-recordings. The oldest material certainly sounds primitive compared to the Dots material being released at the same time this compilation came out, but the newer material on disc one of the two-CD set is sure to satisfy fans of late-'80s Dots. Likewise, hardcore fans will find the archival material found on disc two fascinating, from the semi-disco feel of "Voices" to more familiar-sounding instrumentals like "Film of the Book." If you're looking for a "best of" type of compilation, you may want to opt for something a bit more straightforward, like Stone Circles or Canta Mientras Puedas instead.
