Following a generation after the Concord All-Stars and such fine swing stylists as Scott Hamilton, Warren Vache, and Ken Peplowski, the young tenor Harry Allen has become a fixture on the German Nagel-Heyer label. His appealing sound and solid sense of swing are well showcased on this live set from Hamburg's America House club in a quartet with pianist John Bunch, bassist Dennis Irwin, and drummer Duffy Jackson. Among the highlights of the ten standards are "'Deed I Do," Count Basie's "The King," "Honeysuckle Rose," and "Limehouse Blues." Recommended.
