Certainly contained in this set are some of the master pianist's better works within a two-year time span, quite a few of his "greatest." Nonetheless this would be a good starter set, featuring 14 solo tracks, four trio sessions, three with a band and one with his underrecorded Swingsters. The sound quality is a fairly good reproduction from the original tapes, and you do get to hear the sheer genius of Art Tatum. His Classics and reissued Pablo label recordings are a logical destination to this entry point for novices.
