This Phontastic CD gives listeners a fine cross-section of Arne Domnerus' career. Domnerus, an altoist inspired by Johnny Hodges and a Benny Goodman-influenced clarinetist whose style was very open to the influences of bebop and cool jazz, has long been one of Sweden's top jazzmen. There are eight selections from the 1946-1960 period and ten dating from 1978-1993 on this CD; sidemen include Rolf Ericson, Putte Wickman, Bengt Hallberg, Rene Gustafsson, and Jan Lundgren, among others. In addition, Domnerus is heard with an all-star group on "Stockholm Sweetnin'," including Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, and arranger Quincy Jones. Considering Arne Domnerus' talent, it is not too surprising that he holds his own. An excellent overview of his career.
