Heritage indeed, as McGann and her supporting musicians tackle traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, England and Canada. It's a rousing set, starting with "Blackwaterside" and closing, after many rousing moments, with the spiritual "There'll Be More Joy." There are some especially nice and interesting moments throughout, including a song about a female drummer who loves nothing more than to play as she marches into battle. There's also "Real Musgrave," a song that may seem familiar to folk listeners everywhere -- being better known in the version performed by Fairport Convention as "Matty Groves." McGann's performances throughout are enthusiastic and infectious -- her energy is extremely captivating. Folk purists may grumble at some of the interpretations, but there is no reason to avoid this record.
