AllMusic Review by

Included on this fun CD from the Austrian RST label are all of the recordings done by the Five Harmaniacs (which date from 1926-27), the Salty Dog Four (from 1930-31 and also known as the Red Devils), the Scorpion Washboard Band (1933) and Rhythm Willie and his Gang (1940). While Rhythm Willie's group is an acoustic blues quartet led by a harmonica player, Scorpion has a kazoo and washboard (along with more conventional instruments), the Salty Dog Four uses kazoo, violin and sometimes mandolin and the Harmaniacs have harmonica, kazoo and washboard. The goodtime music overall falls between jazz and blues and is difficult to resist, particularly tunes such as "Sadie Green, The Vamp of New Orleans," "Coney Island Washboard," "What Did Romie-O Juliet (When He Climbed Her Balcony)" and "Bedroom Stomp."
