Arliss Parker is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Chris Parker, who moved from Colorado to Brooklyn in the fall of 2006 and created this music in a converted darkroom. Appropriate to that setting, it is a group of hushed, calm, instrumental tracks featuring deliberately picked guitar arpeggios set against repetitive patterns played on toy keyboards, and simple percussion that includes glockenspiel, plus some atmospheric sounds. Parker sometimes runs the tape backwards, the better to create odd effects, but the music never becomes disturbing. At times, it sounds unfinished (as if waiting for a melody line and vocals), but it never loses its modest charm.
