The dark and moody musical score for NBC's hit fantasy series Grimm pairs well with the show's eerie premise of a homicide detective's involvement with a group of mythological creatures based on the classic German fairy tales. Veteran film and television composer Richard Marvin (Six Feet Under, U-571) adds plenty of nocturnal undertones and playful creepiness to a world where monsters and men secretly coexist. Combining the scores from both of Grimm's first two seasons, the soundtrack covers all of the show's primary musical themes and movements. Although there are occasional synth embellishments, the score is largely orchestral, relying on brooding cello solos and dissonant string sections to set the macabre tone.
