An English-language version, better realized than a typical highlights disc but nowhere near EMI's 130-minute version. This performance is a good compromise for non-German speakers, however, as it is very easy to find and only takes up one CD instead of two. Hadley is no Gedda, but he does the job well; Deborah Riedel makes a vocally alluring Giuditta, and Bonynge is a very sympathetic conductor when it comes to this material, with more of a flowing and emphatic touch than Boskovsky, making for brisker pacing and a more overtly upbeat mood to the proceedings.
