The trio of guitarist Paul Meyers, bassist Santi Debriano and drummer Vanderlei Pereira performs 14 songs on this CD at a quiet volume but with close interplay and inner heat. Although it may appear at first to be a Brazilian jazz date, much of the material (all but two of which are group originals) is actually postbop, somewhat complex and, even when melodic, full of unpredictability. Guitarist Meyers is the lead voice but closely followed by Debriano (who has a lot of short solos) and Pereira. This subtle set is worth several close listens.
