AllMusic Review by

Much more coherent than the first LP in this series (R 139615), Volume II consists of 16 of Benny Goodman's studio recordings for Columbia that date from late 1939 through 1941. A fine "best-of" (rather than "complete") set, this LP has among its many highlights "Zaggin' with Zig," "Henderson Stomp," the Cootie Williams trumpet feature "Superman," "Solo Flight" (which showcases guitarist Charlie Christian), "The Earl" and the title cut. A fine introduction to Goodman's underrated early-'40s orchestra.
