EPs often fall into the odds and ends category, rather than being focused works with central themes. Thus, they tend to appeal to die-hard fans instead of casual listeners. One example is CD Laser Lens Cleaner, a six-song EP that Shallow's more devoted fans will find of interest. "30mg of Valium," "Goodbye," and "Uncapable" aren't in a class with the gems that characterized the superb High Flyin' Kid Stuff, but they're enjoyable items that illustrate Shallow's uniqueness. Although comparisons to other alternative rockers, such as My Bloody Valentine and Lush, are well and good, Shallow is every bit as recognizable itself. Those who haven't experienced the pleasures of Shallow would be better off starting out with High Flyin' Kid Stuff, but listeners who have already savored High Flyin' Kid Stuff and 3-D Stereo Trouble will probably want this EP as well.
