Body and Soul consists of live performances from 1961, when Coltrane's quartet (Trane on tenor and soprano sax, McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and drummer Elvin Jones) was sometimes joined on-stage by alto saxman/bass clarinetist Eric Dolphy. Performances of "Mr. P.C.," "Naima," "Traneing In," "I Want to Talk About You," "Miles' Mode," and "Body and Soul" are first-rate -- stunning, in fact -- and they deserve better remastering than they get on this carelessly assembled CD. Body and Soul is a disc that only completists and diehard collectors will be interested in.
