AllMusic Review by

This set presents the Duke Ellington Orchestra from 1927, still recording under sobriquets like the Washingtonians and the Kentucky Club Orchestra, but already featuring long-time mainstays like Sonny Greer, Bubber Miley, Harry Carney, and Tricky Sam Nanton. Offered here are four different takes of the title track, three of "Washington Wobble" and "East St. Louis Toddle-O," and two apiece of "Harlem River Quiver," and "The Blues I Love to Sing." The transfers are reasonably clean and the music bristles with intensity.
