Following their 2011 sophomore release Fight Less Win More, London-based indie rockers My Sad Captains took a more streamlined approach, focusing on their songwriting efforts on third album Best of Times. The smooth, hypnotic album veers more toward the influence of '80s guitar pop while still retaining some of the ambient leanings of their earlier recordings. The album was tracked at the studio of the band's label in London and then sent to Portland, Oregon-based engineer Larry Crane (known for his work with indie superstars like Elliott Smith and Sleater-Kinney) for final mixing.
