The songs on this album, Beginnings: 1989-1990, are just what the title indicates: the beginnings -- tunes that were recorded between late 1989 and early 1990. These tunes were really only intended to be used as demos to help draw attention to a young and struggling singer who who would become hot as fresh-cooked griddle cakes, country diva Shania Twain. These 12 remastered and remixed songs are more rock, power pop, and adult contemporary than country, fitting into the late '80s just as they should have when they were done. Many of the numbers on this 1999 album were written by both Paul Sabu and the young Twain. All of the songs aside from "For the Love of Him" can be found on another album called The Complete Limelight Sessions, along with five other songs from the same time period. If you buy this album instead, though, you have the pleasure of knowing that part of the purchase price will go to worthwhile charities like the Make a Wish Foundation in Phoenix and Kids' Cafe/Second Harvest in Chicago.
