Fans of clawhammer banjo will surely be glad to hear that the talented group from London, Ontario, Canada, Odegaard's Original Banjo Suite, offers additional selections on Banjo Suite II. Ranging from the cheerfully upbeat "Reel Jig Medley" to the mellow and laid-back "Beverly Hills Billy," this sampler delivers another savory taste of their distinctive and pleasing sound. There's a bluegrass theme to this sampler, noticeable on "Haley's Comet" and "Boskung," and it's a natural focus for banjo music, since the instrument features prominently in the genre. "Simple Frailty Song" makes reference to the other name for clawhammer style playing, which is called frailing. Vocals on this one add a distinctly Arkansas tone, yet, as is characteristic of the band, stop short of becoming words. "Hammering on Medley" lilts along merrily, with the banjo complimented by some skillful fiddling. So, welcome back Paul Odegaard and his friends, and be sure to add Banjo Suite II to the recommended list.
