AllMusic Review by

Almir Chediak, the owner of the label Lumiar, has been receiving important awards for his Songbook series, which pays a deserving tribute to great names of Brazilian music, always interpreted by a selected number of important Brazilian musicians. In the Ary Barroso Songbook, more than 50 artists interpret 46 tracks in three volumes. In this first volume, Tom Jobim opens with "Na Batucada Da Vida," followed by the incredible violonista, the late Rafael Rabello, accompanying Gal Costa in "No Rancho Fundo." Some pop artists are admitted in the Songbooks' illustrious companies with mixed results. Fortunately, this time everything works with a convincing interpretation by Daniela Mercury, together with the wonderful João Bosco, for "No Tabuleiro da Baiana." Caetano Veloso sings and plays violão in "Camisa Amarela" and Elza Soares and the Aquarela Carioca interpret "É Luxo Só" (precious swing); also included are Edu Lobo, Joyce, Paulinho da Viola, Dori Caymmi, Amélia Rabello, Angela Rôrô, Monarco, Carmem Costa, Ney Matogrosso and Dino 7 Cordas, and O Trio (excellent choro trio) and Leandro Braga.
