One of the foremost exponents of corrido norteno music, Lupillo Rivera has amassed a considerable following with his rollicking, exuberant sounds. He's the antithesis of the brooding, sexy Latin macho, and his quirky, unpredictable, percussion-driven horn arrangements dominate this collection of favorites and new songs. AMORCITO CORAZON is tremendous fun from start to finish, from the chirpy "Te Solte La Rienda" with its fanfare of brass against Rivera's wonderfully blowsy vocals, through the title track with its weird little off-key whistle functioning as an irresistible hook, to the swaying "Cien Anos," which is about as close as Rivera gets to low-key, which is to say not that close at all. For Anglo audiences this energetic collection will function as a fine introduction to this remarkable talent.
