There is an unavoidable element of shock when one sees and hears Frankie Negron for the first time. His sugar pop teen idol looks are misleading, and when he opens his mouth and reveals the voice of a true artist, disbelief is the only reasonable response. Though Amanecer Contigo will probably not be an introduction for most, one can't help but relive that initial surprise as Negron moves closer and closer to being a truly singular voice in the genre. Negron's voice darkens and deepens with age, and his command is moving close to truly masterful. With similar pop-salsa inflections to reigning salsa king Marc Anthony, Negron's style is representative of his generation, the salseros of the future. Produced by Sergio George, the record is truly flawless, at times to the point of sacrificing some warmth or vibrancy. The arrangements and performances are drum-tight all the way around. Though there are a few pop remixes, the body of the record is straight-up salsa, as Negron continues his full-court press to be the genre's next definitive voice. If he continues along his current track, Negron will have earned it.
