Time Life's AM Gold series takes a wide-ranging look at the music that shaped the '70s, sticking mainly to the biggest hits of each year and providing an hour-plus of first-rate oldies radio programming. Each disc is heavy with classic tracks from huge artists, but also finds space for one-offs from lesser-known groups and singers. AM Gold: 1974 is as scattered across the musical spectrum as any other entry, and its highlights include Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently," Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun," Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis," and the Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe." Another well-chosen, evenly paced, and highly entertaining collection from the fine folks at Time Life, seek it out at a second-hand store near you today.
