Previously unreleased until this LP came out in 1986, these performances feature pianist James P. Johnson during his final period. Johnson takes the title cut unaccompanied, is heard as a guest at Eddie Condon concerts from 1944-47 and (best of all) has five lengthy selections as either solos or duets with drummer Danny Alvin in 1949, shortly before a major stroke put him permanently out of action. Historic value aside, Johnson is heard in prime form on such numbers as "If Dreams Come True," "Over the Waves" and the closing "Liza." This increasingly hard-to-find LP should be of great interest to fans of the innovative stride pianist.
