Philip Claypool's debut album Circus Leaving Town is a diverse collection. Building on a solid contemporary country base, Claypool adds elements of blues, gospel, and folk, making the record a thoroughly southern affair. Much of the music and production is intriguing, saving even the weakest songs on the record. It has a slightly uneven selection of material, but Circus Leaving Town remains a promising debut.
