One of the leading lights of norteño music, accordion player and singer Ramon Ayala has been a vital part of the music's progress since starting out in the '60s with los Relampagos del Norte, which also featured esteemed guitarist and vocalist Cornelio Reyna. Since his 1971 split with Reyna, though, Ayala has released numerous titles heading up the Relampagos offshoot Sus Bravos del Norte. This collection essays the band's lengthy career with 20 cherry-picked corridos, rancheras, boleros, and valseadas. The disc is not only a perfect way to get familiar with Ayala's amazing output, but it also is an excellent primer for norteño newcomers.
