Year-based compilations are nearly always enjoyable time capsules, and England's A Time to Remember label, with over 30 years of annual compilations, has trawled British chart culture (not usually created by British artists) nearly as far into the past as the American Time-Life. 1969: 20 Original Chart Hits compiles a range of chart entries, most of them very familiar but a few of them quite obscure. Among the familiars are "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by the Hollies, "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell, and "Going Up the Country" by Canned Heat. The unfamiliar choices are much more intriguing, most of them forgotten pop crossovers by Peter Sarstedt, Karen Young, and the Scott Walker sound-alike Malcolm Roberts.
