AllMusic Review by

1940-1949: Kansas City Bounce is a good introduction to pianist and bandleader Jay McShann. It captures the earliest sides of McShann as a bandleader and spotlights the musicians who recorded with him at the time: Ben Webster, Paul Quinichette, Harold Ashby, and Charlie Parker. These 22 tracks are vintage Decca, Aladdin, and Mercury recordings, including "Swingmatism," "So You Won't Jump," "Hot Biscuits," and "McShann Bounce." This is a great collection on the French label EPM. It may be slightly difficult to obtain but well worth the search.
